Chelsea Royal Hospital discharged soldier list - These Discharged Soldiers lists are from the records for the Royal Chelsea Hospital in London, which was founded by King Charles II. The famous buildings of the hospital, designed by Sir Christoper Wren and opened in 1691 by William and Mary, still provide a London home for over 400 disabled ex-servicemen. All the Chelsea Pensioners are discharged veterans of the British Army, and even today they are readily recognizable on many formal occasions in their striking red uniforms. Both In-pensioners and Out-pensioners are in this well known group, and many of the latter have appeared in emigration records, especially for Australia and New Zealand.
