SERIOUS CASE AT ABERDEEN [01] A woman, named
Ann Peters or Kelly, aged about forty, was found dead in her house in Gardener's
Lane, Justice Street, Aberdeen, at an early hour on Sunday morning. She had been
seen about two o'clock on that morning in the street, had been drinking, and, it
is said, expressed fears as to her safety if she entered the house. Within were
her mother, Elizabeth Aikman or Peters, a brother, Andrew peters, and a man
named Chisholm, who, it is said, cohabited with Ann peters. Immediately after
entering her wretched abode, which was the scene of frequent quarrels and
fights, the neighbours heard a scuffle, cries in which the word "murder" could
be heard, and a fall on the floor, after which there was silence. The police, in
course of a few hours after receiving information, took the mother, the son, and
Chisholm into custody, and they remain, at least, until the post mortem
examination is completed. It would appear, according to the statement of
Chisholm, that the brother struck the deceased, or threw her violently on the
floor; and there are marks on the body; but the family were, as mentioned, of a
quarrelsome disposition; and all had been drinking on the Saturday night. Peters
has been sent to prison on a charge of culpable homicide, and the other two
parties have been liberated.
