MELANCHOLY AND FATAL ACCIDENT [02]
On Wednesday morning, about 9 o’clock, as a lad, named Peter Kerr, an apprentice slater in the employment of Mr
William Wood, slater, Townhead. Was occupied in whitewashing the outside of a property situated in Reid Street,
Bridgeton, he fell from a ladder to the ground, a height of three stories, sustaining severe injuries, mostly about the head
and face. He was immediately carried into a spirit shop in the neighbourhood and Dr. Burns was soon in attendance,
who found him in a state nor to warrant his removal, and notwithstanding the injured lad’s receiving every attention, he
died about four hours after the accident.

LAMENTABLE OCCURENCE [02]
On Wednesday last a melancholy accident occurred in Lochindale, between Bowmore and Port Charlotte, Islay, by the
upsetting of a boat, whereby four persons me an untimely death. It appears that, on the above day, George Lyon Esq., of
Mountainblue, Glasgow, George Guild, of Broomhill, Stirlingshire, and two other persons (father and son), natives of
Islay, whose names we have not ascertained, went out in a pleasure boat to have a sail. When between the above
mentioned places a sudden gust of wind caught the sail of the little bark, when she was immediately capsized, and the
four persons, met a watery grave. The bodies were shortly after recovered. Those of the father and son were claimed by
their relatives on the island, and those of the above highly respected gentlemen conveyed to Glasgow by the steamer
Islay, on Saturday last.
